When you take a vessel of any size to sea it is critically important that you know where you are and not get lost and know when you will arrive at a certain location. The ship's Navigator is entrusted to navigate the ship and they do this by solving problems using the variables; Time, Speed and Distance. The math is quite simple -if you know any two of the factors you can readily calculate the third. And you need to know all of them to navigate.
It really doesn't matter if you are navigating a row boat or an aircraft carrier the navigation problems are the same! When the US and other Navy sends its ships to sea they provide their navigators with all sorts of very impressive electronic equipment. In fact they provide millions of dollars of navigation equipment just so that the navigator will not get lost!
Surprisingly one of the items of navigation gear they provide is this heavy plastic, rust and water proof -no batteries required- nautical slide rule. They are made to military standards and you can't beat the quality. They are easy to read and use, provide a wealth of information and can happily live in a marine environment almost indefinitely. You can even use one of the edges to draw a straight line! When its a long day and you are tired from the sun and the sea the rule keeps you honest by eliminating any mistakes your Mk1 brain is going to make with math!
I have used these rules myself while navigating and can vouch that they are absolutely essential in a vessel of any size. Well maybe not a rowboat. But any vessel with navigation equipment should have one of these! And one of the nice things about this circular rule is that no batteries are required! All modern navigation gear works off of batteries and when they go dead the gear stops working. Surprising how often that happens. I have an older style GPS system and the darn thing is a battery pig and will eat its set of double A's in less than a day.
DESCRIPTION Approx 8" square, white, used condition. Same as used by the Navy and still in production today. Minor scuffs, very good working condition. Excellent for your marine collection, navigation or as a gift to a boat owner.

Free! With your purchase I will also include an invention of mine a set of Time Speed Distance Tables printed on cardstock. I invented this several years ago after serving in the Navy as a ships officer and living onboard my own sail boat for three years. Very Useful and I like to think, extremely clever too!
